The History of NBA 2k

NBA 2k was the first-ever NBA 2k ever released. It was released on November 10, 1999, with Allen Iverson being the cover athlete. This game was playable on the PS3, PS2, Xbox 360, Gamecube, and the Dreamcast.

Let’s fast-forward to NBA 2k5, where FINALLY, there was a different cover athlete than AI. This year it was Big Ben Wallace, who was an NBA champion that year. This was the last NBA 2k published by SEGA. This game was playable on the PS2 and the Xbox 360.

Let’s fast-forward to NBA 2k10, where Kobe Bryant was the cover athlete. This was the first 2k game to be released on the Wii and the Playstation Portable. One of the most popular additions to NBA 2k10 was the MyPlayer mode or now known as the MyCareer mode. Quickplay and online modes were also available. This game was playable on the PS3, PS2, Xbox 360, Wii, Playstation Portable, and Microsoft Windows.

Let’s fast-forward(AGAIN) to NBA 2k15 where the cover athlete is Kevin Durant. In this NBA 2k, there are improvements to MyCareer. First, they have badges going from bronze to silver to gold. You also get more VC from endorsement deals. Most importantly, this was the first 2k with MyPark. Yes, this was the game that gave us the amazing MyPark that almost 1.6 million people have played in 2k.

The Amazing MyPark that we know today.

Let’s go a little further to NBA 2k17, in my opinion, the best 2k game since 2k10. In this game, for me, playing Blacktop was the most fun thing you can do apart from playing park. This game is one of my favorites because breaking your opponent’s ankles was so easy. Sometimes they would fall really weird, and it would be funny. For example, I was Kyrie Irving and Isaiah Thomas was guarding him. I do a crossover and he starts stumbling and he ends up going from the top of the key to the hoop. Well, those days are over, but I’m happy I experienced it. So let’s talk about MyCareer. Well for me MyCareer was very easy. I won Rookie of the Year, MVP, Defensive Player of the Year, Finals MVP, and our team(The San Antonio Spurs) had the best record in the league. If you guys can believe it, I averaged 75 ppg, 9 RPG, 15 APG, 25 SPG, 5 BPG, and 48 MPG in the Playoffs. This is longer than I expected so let’s move on.

Taking ankles in 2k17

Let’s go to NBA 2k19, and see how they messed it up. Okay, we’ve seen 2k18 already, why not make 2k19 seemingly worse, well that’s what 2k did. Let’s talk MyCareer. Alright let’s see, why is 2k19 so bad? First of all, there were so many patches that made playing on Hall of Fame so hard for average players like me. Alright, you want to know what pissed people off a lot, the fact that your player can’t catch. Playing MyCareer wasn’t hard at the beginning, but then 2k made a patch. After that, your player couldn’t intercept the ball through the lanes. He would hit it, but then just leave it. In 2k19, breaking ankles wasn’t too hard. But, after you dropped the player, he would get up in like a second. Let’s talk Park now. The biggest problem was shoving. You could literally win by shoving your opponent to an angle where they can’t defend the player. This problem was petitioned upon the 2k community. This glitch was fixed in the middle of March. I don’t know what 2k was thinking, but boy they messed this game up. I feel like we should move on from this.

What the heck.

Well, that’s it for the History of NBA 2k. Hope You Enjoyed it!
